
Nigam Bhandari is a Nepal-based filmmaker and M.F.A. graduate of NYU Tisch School of the Arts' Graduate Film program. His work spans fiction, documentary, and cultural journalism. He is best known for Song of Clouds (2020), the first Nepali short to premiere at Sundance, and Jaalgedi (2017), which won the Berlinale Generation Kplus award. His producing credits include Kalam (2019), which premiered at the Busan International Film Festival.
An alumnus of Berlinale Talents (2019), Nigam was awarded a prestigious fellowship from the Asian Cultural Council in 2022, which supported his final year at NYU and enabled him to direct/produce a slate of short films focused on cross-cultural narratives and place-based storytelling.
In 2024, he created a video for the Rubin Museum's exhibition Reimagine: Himalayan Art Now, a museum-wide showcase of contemporary Himalayan artists. Alongside his directing and producing work, Nigam has contributed to over 20 film projects as a freelance sound recordist.
Nigam is drawn to stories rooted in landscape that explore the connective tissue between culture and community.
